Choose a color to
appear in every fabric and use that
as a solid on the largest piece of
furniture in the room . Stephen
included sage green in all his
choices and covered the settee in
a nubby version.

Stripes
and tone-on-tone circles are classic
choices to build on the solid, but
are subtle enough that you w on’t
tire o f them easily.
■ PLAY UP O NE PIECE
Use eye-
popping fabric on a single, smaller
piece o f furniture like the floral

PROBLEM-SOLVING ARRANGEMENT
Stephen focused on furniture that could be easily rearranged for
maximum flexibility in this i3 X ii-foo t room. A full-size sofa wasn’t
an option, so he nestled a settee in the alcove created by the bay
windows. For a new look, he suggests swapping the placement o f
the armless chairs with the settee,
